Megan Ellison‘s Annapurna Pictures tends to be associated with prestige projects from acclaimed auteurs such as Spike Jonze‘s "Her," David O. Russell‘s "American Hustle" and "Joy," Bennett Miller‘s "Foxcatcher," Kathryn Bigelow‘s "Zero Dark Thirty"…you get the idea. But that doesn’t mean the producer and production company don’t know how to have fun. They were also behind Harmony Korine‘s "Spring Breakers," and this year, they’re backing an unlikely, naughty animated picture.

The latest from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg is "Sausage Party," the envelope-pushing movie (which Rogen has described as "…fucking filthy. It’s really really really dirty, but it looks like a Pixar movie") that has been in the works for a while now, and is finally hitting theaters this summer. But first, it will get a work-in-progress premiere at SXSW this month. Featuring an insanely stacked voice cast including Rogen, Jonah Hill, Kristen Wiig, Salma Hayek, Edward Norton, David Krumholtz, Nick Kroll, Michael Cera, James Franco, Craig Robinson, Bill Hader, Anders Holm, Paul Rudd and Danny McBride, the oddball story follows a sausage who falls out of a shopping cart and embarks with his foodie friends on a perilous journey through the supermarket to get back to their aisles before the 4th of July sale.
SXSW has proven to be a great launching pad for comedies over the past few years (see "Bridesmaids," "Neighbors," "Trainwreck"), and everyone must be feeling pretty good about "Sausage Party" if they’re ready to show it months ahead of its August 12th release date. Trailer soon? Fingers crossed.
