Earlier this week, news broke that the first two episodes of the final season of “Game of Thrones” would be less than an hour. With only six episodes left to wrap up years worth of storylines, this felt a bit…short. The speculation, up until now, has been that all the episodes of the final season would be “feature-length.” Well, there’s good news and bad news about that.
The bad news, because we are like that, is we were right about the running times of the first two episodes of Season 8. In a press release from HBO, it’s been confirmed that Episode 1, airing April 14, will clock in at 54 minutes. Episode 2, a week later, will run for 58 minutes. Not short, by any stretch of the imagination, but also definitely not feature-length.
The good news is that the remaining four episodes are well over an hour, each coming in right around one-hour-and-twenty-minutes in length. The longest episode of the season will be the third, which clocks in at one-hour-and-twenty-two-minutes. Not too shabby, at all.
And yes, as we’ve previously deduced, the final episode of “Game of Thrones” will air on May 19 and feature a running time of one-hour-and-twenty-minutes.
All told, fans only have 432 minutes left of “Game of Thrones.” It seems like a lot, but for many of us, it is not nearly enough.
Season 8 of “Game of Thrones” premieres on April 14.
