Meryl Streep, Gary Oldman & Antonio Banderas Circling Steven Soderbergh's Panama Papers Film 'The Laundromat'

Last month, we were able to exclusively bring you news about Steven Soderbergh’s next film, “The Laundromat.” No, this isn’t Soderbergh’s attempt to take down the public clothes-washing industry. Soderbergh’s upcoming film focuses on the revelations that stemmed from a huge document leak, dubbed the “Panama Papers,” about the Panama-based law firm Mossack Fonseca that gave details about politicians around the world evading taxes.

Well, now word comes from Deadline that the filmmaker is putting his cast together for the film, and you’re definitely going to recognize the names circling the project. The report states that Gary Oldman and Antonio Banderas are close to signing on for “The Laundromat.” The roles are unknown at this time, but these two actors definitely bring some star power to Soderbergh’s newest film. Update: THR also adds Meryl Streep is joining the cast.

Oldman is coming off a great 2017, where his film “Darkest Hour” was nominated for tons of awards, and the actor filled up his mantle with just about every Best Actor award given out. He’ll next be seen in the film “Hunter Killer,” co-starring with Gerard Butler.

Antonio Banderas has a bunch of projects on his plate coming out over the next year. He stars as Pablo Picasso in the upcoming second season of “Genius.” He has a role in the film “Life Itself,” scheduled to hit in the fall. He also has some huge films lined up for 2019, including “Dolor y Gloria,” from director Pedro Almodóvar, “The Voyage of Doctor Doolittle,” and he’s been rumored to be part of the reshoots surrounding “The New Mutants.”

Soderbergh, as per usual, has been incredibly busy recently, as well. Last year saw the release of “Logan Lucky” and his TV show/app “Mosaic.” His most recent film, “Unsane,” hit theaters earlier this year. He’s currently putting the finishing touches on his film “High Flying Bird.”

No word on a release date for “The Laundromat.”
