Got a Tip?

‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Getting “Quirky Comedic” Script From Chris McCoy

nullYes, the Marvel movie universe is getting much, much bigger and apparently, funnier as well, as their next superhero team-up movie will dole out laughs and action in equal measure.

Those who have read the 2008 comic book reboot of "Guardians of the Galaxy" likely were very excited by Marvel's Comic-Con announcement that a film adaptation would arrive in 2014, but for those unfamiliar with the unorthodox superhero team (which includes an alien tree creature and a pistol-wielding, talking raccoon), the news was likely met with a more dubious countenance. Still, after "The Avengers," Marvel can afford to take a chance and "Guardians of the Galaxy" is it. The script was initially written by newcomer Nicole Perlman, a graduate of Marvel's now-defunct writing program who also wrote two space-themed biopics, and the rewrite will be handled by Chris McCoy, yet another screenwriting newcomer. McCoy has written three scripts that have landed on the Black List, and will bring his reported "quirky comedic bent" to the 'Guardians' script.

'Guardians' will follow a five-member team including Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Gamora and Drax the Destroyer (learn more about the 'Guardians' team here) on an undisclosed adventure, though considering the team's ties to Thanos, the purple-skinned baddie revealed in "The Avengers" post-credits scene (see below), there's a good chance that he will be the villain of the film. Drax was created by Thanos, after all, while Gamora was raised by Thanos to be an assassin until she realized his true nature and turned against him, and, you know, the Guardians protect the galaxy, which is Thanos' turf, so…seems kind of destined.
