Hulu owes a lot to “The Handmaid’s Tale.” As streamers like Netflix and Amazon began earning critical acclaim and awards recognition for series, Hulu was starting to fall behind. But that all changed when the adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s classic novel hit the scene, instantly becoming a much-needed hit for the streaming service. Now, as the show enters its fourth season, it appears that “The Handmaid’s Tale” is even more epic than ever before.
Two things are clear in the new teaser for “The Handmaid’s Tale.” First, the series is clearly entering a phase of its story where big things are happening all the time, with a war brewing and the future of the country in jeopardy, all because of the actions of one woman. Second, fans of the Hulu series have a long wait ahead of them for Season 4, as the streaming service is only saying that the new season will arrive in 2021.
“The Handmaid’s Tale” stars Elisabeth Moss as June, the woman that seems to be causing all sorts of issues for the society that has forced women into servitude. Moss is having a moment right now. Not only is she earning rave reviews for her work on ‘Handmaid’s’ but she’s also appeared in incredible features such as “The Invisible Woman” (with how the film world is at a standstill right now, is there a more mainstream performance worthy of awards recognition?) and “Shirley.” And if that wasn’t enough, she’s part of the all-star cast for Wes Anderson’s upcoming feature, “The French Dispatch.” So, even if fans have to wait until 2021 for the next season of her TV show, there’s still plenty of chances to catch the actress’ performances until then.
As mentioned, it’s unclear when “The Handmaid’s Tale” will debut on Hulu. The series is already a big show for the streaming service, requiring a massive budget. And with the COVID-19 pandemic wreaking havoc on the industry, it’s obvious that even ‘Handmaid’s’ is feeling the effects. But we know the show will debut sometime in 2021.
