HBO Picks Up Full Season Of Damon Lindelof's 'Watchmen' TV Series

After all the drama that surrounded bringing the “Watchmen” TV series to the pilot stage, which included creator-writer Damon Lindelof begging fans to give it a shot, it looks like HBO is ready to give the show a real shot. HBO has reportedly given the highly-anticipated, highly-questionable “Watchmen” TV series a full season order.

For those that haven’t been keeping track of this series’ development, “Watchmen” is the adaptation of what is regarded as one of best, if not the best, comic book series of all time. The series followed the mystery surrounding a string of murders of superheroes in an alternate United States. “Watchmen” is a deconstruction of the superhero mythology and was once adapted into a feature film (of debatable quality) by Zack Snyder. However, the HBO series is said to be a sequel of sorts, set in the present day, which follows a new group of characters that inhabit the post-“Watchmen” world.

Damon Lindelof, best known for his work on “Lost” and “The Leftovers,” is spearheading the venture, and has been doing everything in his power to assure comic book fans that this series deserves to be made. “Watchmen” stars Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, and Louis Gossett Jr.

There’s no official release date, but the series is expected to debut sometime in 2019.

Here’s the official description:

‘Watchmen’ embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel while attempting to break new ground of its own.” That is in keeping with the letter Lindelof posted for fans back in May in which he stated that the show will not be a re-telling of the story from the graphic novel, but rather a new story in the same world with new characters set in the present day. “Some of the characters will be unknown,” Lindelof wrote. “New faces. New masks to cover them. We also intend to revisit the past century of Costumed Adventuring through a surprising yet familiar set of eyes…and it is here we will be taking our greatest risks.
