'In-rang: The Wolf Brigade' Trailer: 'I Saw The Devil' Filmmaker Returns With His Own Summer Blockbuster

Korean filmmaker Jee-Woon Kim, best known for  “The Good the Bad the Weird,” “A Tale of Two Sisters,” and “I Saw the Devil,” brings us a “Mission: Impossible“-esque action movie set it in the future. The film, “In-rang: The Wolf Brigade,” is an adaptation of a popular Japanese series, and looks to have a different take on the popular source material.

And in the recent international trailer, we get to see that Kim is still a great filmmaker with an unmistakable sense of style and flair, even when we can’t understand a word that’s being said. Yes, the trailer is in Korean, but even without understanding the dialogue, the action and spectacle, combined with the epic score make us wish ‘In-rang’ was being released in the US soon.

Based on the world created by Mamoru Oshii, the story follows those in society who are predators among prey. Set in the distant future where both North and South Koreas agree to establish a joint government, which has been in preparation for a duration of 7 years, the plot focuses on political uprisings on opposing sides which grow fierce when a special police unit is formed to stop the chaos. The original source material was set in an alternate version of Japan in the 1950s.

Before this new remake, Oshii’s “Kerberos Saga” has been comprised of a series of radio plays, films, books, and manga. But ‘In-rang’ marks the first time the source material has been adapted outside its native Japan.

The film is set to star Gang Dong-wonHan Hyo-jooJung Woo-sung, with Kim Mu-yeolChoi Min-hoHan Ye-riShin Eun-soo, and Choi Jin-ho, with the screenplay written by Kim.

‘In-rang’ is currently set to open in theaters in Korea starting later this July. However, despite the seemingly large fan-base surrounding the source material, the movie has no other international release dates or plans set yet. You have to expect that will soon change as Kim’s films have had strong crossover appeal worldwide, with “I Saw the Devil” premiering at Sundance in 2011.
