Jordan Peele's Anthology Series 'Weird City' Finds A Home At YouTube Premium

Jordan Peele is on top of the world right now. The Oscar-winning writer/director has a slew of new projects in development, including multiple series at multiple networks and of course, his follow-up to “Get Out,” which should hit theaters next year. Needless to say, the guy is very busy, and he can now add another project to his already massive list. The filmmaker has just signed a deal to have his newest series “Weird City” find a home at YouTube Premium.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Peele is teaming up with “Key & Peele” collaborator Charlie Sanders for the show. On working with Sanders, Peele said, “Writer/creator Charlie Sanders and I collaborated on some ‘Key & Peele’ sketches that took on everything from the ‘Black Republicans’ to ‘Continental Breakfasts’ to ‘Family Matters.’ Now, with YouTube, we present a series of comedy driven twisted-ass science fiction stories that take place in a world close to ours but just a little bit off.”

The show is a sci-fi comedy set in Weird City. Chronicling the day-to-day lives of its inhabitants, “Weird City” is bound to live up to the name. Peele has even dubbed the show a “twisted-ass science fiction” anthology series. Originally slated for 2015, the show was going to run with Amazon. Peele and company have already made a deal with Amazon on future projects. The show didn’t move forward with Amazon and has now found a place at YouTube Premium. With all the streaming services out there, YouTube hasn’t really caught steam up until recently, with their surprise hit “Cobra Kai.” Peele’s show will, no doubt, be a huge draw to the site.

Jose Molina (“The Tick”) is set to serve as showrunner for “Weird City.” And Adam Bernstein will direct the first two episodes. Bernstein has been directing TV since the 1990s, with credits including shows like “30 Rock,” “Breaking Bad,” “Scrubs,” “Orange is the New Black,” and “Fargo.” Bernstein has a solid combination of drama and comedy, which in the case of “Weird City,” can only entice fans to watch.

“Weird City” will debut on YouTube Premium in 2019.
