Juliette Binoche, Ethan Hawke & More Set For Hirokazu Kore-eda's Latest Film 'La Verite'

One of the most acclaimed filmmakers in the world, Hirokazu Kore-eda, is lining up his next film, which will be the next project he works on since winning the Palme d’Or at Cannes earlier this year. The film, “La Verite,” is said to shoot in France later this year, and will feature an incredible cast, according to Variety.

“La Verite” will star Juliette Binoche, Catherine Deneuve, Ludivine Sagnier, and American actor Ethan Hawke. The film is based on a stage play that Kore-eda wrote 15 years ago, but never produced, and will follow a married couple (Hawke and Binoche), as they return to France from the US when the wife’s mother publishes an autobiography.

As mentioned above, Kore-eda is coming off the incredible premiere of his latest film “Shoplifters” that wowed critics at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and earned the filmmaker the highest prize at the fest. Other than “Shoplifters,” Kore-eda is probably best known for his Japanese dramas “Nobody Knows,” “After the Storm,” and “Like Father, Like Son.”

“Directing while overcoming differences of language and culture is a stimulating challenge,” Kore-eda said in a statement. “Whether or not to direct the way I do in Japan is something I will think about on the set.”

The film will shoot in France during October and November of this year, with a 2019 release date being eyed, for now. However, no distribution has been set, but Wild Bunch is listed as the sales agent for the project, and with the star power in front of the camera and helming, one has to assume that this film will have quite the bidding war.
