If you’re a regular reader of The Playlist, then it’s likely you’re a fan of Luke Wilson. From his debut in the incredible film, “Bottle Rocket,” to his later collaborations with Wes Anderson, to his highly underrated and sadly prescient “Idiocracy,” Wilson is an actor that has been in a number of iconic films over the past three decades. And in honor of his new film, the feel-good drama, “12 Mighty Orphans,” Luke Wilson joined The Playlist Podcast for a discussion about the football feature and his previous filmography.

In “12 Mighty Orphans,” Luke Wilson stars as the coach of the Mighty Mites, the football team of a Fort Worth orphanage that, during the Great Depression, went from not having enough equipment to compete to actually playing for a state championship. Joining Wilson in the cast is none other than Hollywood legend, Martin Sheen, as well as Robert Duvall. If you’re looking for something a bit different than the blockbusters and franchise fare that are starting to dominate the summer movie season, “12 Mighty Orphans” could be exactly what you need.

But of course, we can’t talk to Luke Wilson without bringing up his history with iconic director Wes Anderson, especially considering this year marks the 20th anniversary of “The Royal Tenenbaums.” And obviously, considering the sad relevance of “Idiocracy,” Wilson discussed the legacy of the Mike Judge film, years after it was initially released.
