Pixar’s ‘Incredibles 3’ Enlists ‘Elemental’ Director Peter Sohn

Pixar is still being tasked by Disney brass to churn out a wave of sequels with the hopes that they’ll help the company make a big splash at the box office. One of those legacy sequels on the horizon is “Incredibles 3,” a love letter to the James Bond franchise and classic superheroes, with “The Fantastic Four” being a huge inspiration.

Brad Bird (“The Simpsons,” “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol”), who helmed and wrote the last two installments of the hit animated franchise, won’t be directing as The Hollywood Reporter reveals Pixar is hiring his directorial replacement from within the studio as they’ve settled on Peter Sohn, who delivered the Oscar-nominated and charming animated flick “Elemental.”

Thankfully, Bird is still involved as a writer and is currently working on the script, and this is certainly a sequel we’ll be excited to see come together. Other projects Bird is prepping on include Skydance’s “Ray Gunn” and “1906” for Disney, which explains why the filmmaker is a little too busy to direct the third installment.

“Incredibles” follows the Parr Family, as Bob and Helen, who live in the quiet suburbs with their three children (Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack) after being forced to hide their superpowers by a new government mandate. One of the more interesting aspects of the franchise is that, unlike many other Pixar films, it takes place in the 1960s, rather than a contemporary setting.

The voice cast expected to return for the third installment includes Craig T. Nelson as Mr. Incredible, Holly Hunter as Elastigirl, Samuel L. Jackson as Frozone, and Sarah Vowell as Violet. Bird, we assume, will lend his voice acting talents to his superhero suit designer character, Enda Mode.

Released back in 2014, “Incredibles 2” earned a massive $1.24 billion and given the previous audience reaction to Pixar’s “Inside Out 2,” another legacy sequel from the studio is likely having Disney banking hard that “Incredibles 3” will put a bunch of butts in seats.
