Sony’s working hard to expand its ‘Spider-Man’ film franchise by focusing new features on various side characters in the lore. We’ve seen this already with “Venom” and its sequel, as well as “Morbius.” This is soon to be followed by “Kraven the Hunter” in 2023. However, those films are fairly straightforward compared to the other ‘Spider-Man’ spinoff that Sony is trying to get before cameras, “Madame Web.” And though the confusion about what the “Madame Web” film is going to look like seems to dominate the conversation, there’s no denying the studio is putting together one hell of a cast.

According to Deadline, the cast of “Madame Web” is growing still, as Emma Roberts is the latest actress to join the Marvel film’s ensemble. While Dakota Johnson is expected to star as the title character, Roberts joins a growing cast that already includes Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, and Tahar Rahim. Roberts is probably best known for her work in “American Horror Story,” as well as films such as “We’re the Millers,” “Palo Alto,” and “Holidate.”
As with most of these superhero films, details about who Roberts is playing and what the plot of “Madame Web” is going to be are kept under wraps. However, if the comics are any indication, the character of Madame Web is an elderly woman who is attached to a de facto “web” of machines that keeps her alive. She has the power of precognition, as well as other psychic abilities. Now, you may be wondering how Dakota Johnson is going to play an elderly hero who doesn’t move from her life support system and actually make this into an interesting, action-packed film? Yeah, everyone seems to be wondering the same thing. Clearly, there are going to be some changes made to the character.
“Madame Web” is directed by S.J. Clarkson. The film doesn’t have a release date yet, but with the project deep into casting, you have to assume production will ramp up soon. Perhaps this could be a late-2023/early-2024 release? We shall see.
