Suburbia usually looks serene right before everything starts coming apart. For Apple TV’s new darkly comedic thriller “Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed,” that collapse begins with a newly divorced mother, her custody fight, and a youth-soccer-adjacent conspiracy that sounds ridiculous. That is, until it starts involving blackmail and murder.

The streamer has released a new teaser for the half-hour series, which stars Emmy winner Tatiana Maslany (“She-Hulk: Attorney At Law”) as Paula Sanders, a newly divorced mom who becomes convinced she has witnessed a crime. Already dealing with an identity crisis and a custody battle, Paula launches her own investigation, one that may expose a larger conspiracy while also forcing her to rebuild her family and sense of self.
Jake Johnson co-stars as Karl Hendricks, with Jessy Hodges as Mallory and Jon Michael Hill as Detective Baxter. The ensemble also includes Brandon Flynn, Murray Bartlett, Charlie Hall, Kiarra Hamagami Goldberg, Nola Wallace, and Dolly De Leon.
The series comes from creator and showrunner David J. Rosen, whose credits include “Sugar” and “Hunters.” David Gordon Green directs and executive produces, continuing his recent run in television after “The Righteous Gemstones” and “Mythic Quest.” The series hails from Apple Studios and Counterpart Studios, with Simon Kinberg, Audrey Chon, and Bard Dorros also among the executive producers.
For Maslany, “Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed” looks like another sharp pivot after “Orphan Black,” “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,” and this year’s “The Monkey,” putting her in the middle of a story that mixes domestic unraveling with amateur detective paranoia.
“Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed” premieres globally on Apple TV+ with its first two episodes on May 20, followed by new episodes every Wednesday through July 15. Watch the trailer below.
