Michael Mann Isn’t Bothered By Low Box Office For ‘Ferrari’: “I’m Confident In The Film’s Long-Term Relevance”

While the reviews for Michael Mann’sFerrari” were solid, and the film had a good festival launch, it would be silly to say that the release was wildly successful. The film only made $43 million worldwide on a budget that was said to be near $100 million. Not only that, but the good reviews didn’t translate into serious awards consideration. That said, Mann himself is very happy with the finished product, and he’s highlighting it on his new website.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, filmmaker Michael Mann talked about the release of his new website Michael Mann Archives, which provides a ton of behind-the-scenes goodies for Mann’s projects. The first one to get the spotlight is his most recent film, “Ferrari.” And when the discussion came to the middling performance of the film at the box office, Mann was confident that his “Ferrari” would stand the test of time, especially thanks to the performances from his cast–Adam Driver, Penelope Cruz, and Shailene Woodley

“I’m confident in the film’s long-term relevance,” Mann says. “I believe it’s a good film. I think Adam’s work is great. Penélope’s work is great. Shailene. The writing by Troy [Kennedy Martin] is quite terrific. No doubt about that.”

As mentioned, Mann is promoting his new Archives website, which is a place where film fans can go to scan through a ton of behind-the-scenes content. It’s a paid subscription, but if you’re a fan of Mann and interested in seeing things like handwritten notes on scripts and whatnot, this is a no-brainer.

Also of note in the interview, Mann talked about what would be his next film— “Heat 2.” The filmmaker said he is working hard on the script for the film, and that he would like to begin filming at the end of 2024 or early 2025. However, if you’re someone trying to get confirmation about Driver or Austin Butler being cast in the film, you’re out of luck. Mann isn’t commenting on that.
