Ryan Murphy, Ian Brennan, and Netflix are reuniting for the fourth season of their crime drama anthology “Monster,” as the new round of episodes will focus on the infamous American murderer Lizzie Borden, who ultimately killed her father and stepmother with an axe in Fall River, Massachusetts, during the late 1800s.
Ella Beatty, the daughter of famed acting couple Annette Bening and Warren Beatty, is set for the Lizzie Borden role in the latest season of “Monster” after previously working with Murphy on the FX series “Feud: Capote vs. The Swans.”
The report that originally hails from Deadline also adds that high-profile actresses Rebecca Hall (“The Listeners”) and Vicky Krieps (“Father Mother Sister Brother”) have roles as they’ll respectively play Lizzie’s stepmother and murder victim, Abby Borden, and the household’s maid, Bridget Sullivan. They also mention Max Winkler is directing the pilot.
While many will be aware of the gruesome Borden family murders, others might not be aware that Lizzie was ultimately acquitted during her trial.
Beatty might not be familiar, but she recently co-starred with Hugh Jackman in the off-Broadway play “Sexual Misconduct of the Middle Classes” at Audible’s Minetta Lane Theatre in Greenwich Village, New York.
We assume other big roles yet to be filled that aren’t mentioned are her father, Andrew Jackson Borden, alongside Lizzie’s sisters Emma and Alice. Of course, the family dynamic is going to make for some compelling, dramatic television. Thankfully, with this story taking place so far ago, over a hundred years ago, it won’t feel as sensationalist as previous seasons of “Monster” that have tackled more recent killers.
