Hollywood currently has Robin Hood on the brain, with numerous competing projects in the works including Disney‘s “Nottingham & Hood,” Sony‘s “Hood,” and Warner Bros. untitled movie that has Will Beall (“Aquaman,” “Gangster Squad“) penning the script. And there’s Lionsgate‘s “Robin Hood: Origins” which is leaping ahead as casting gets under way.
Deadline reports that a crop of young actors — Nicholas Hoult (“Mad Max: Fury Road“), Jack Huston (“Boardwalk Empire“), Taron Egerton (“Kingsman: The Secret Service“), Jack Reynor (“Transformers: Age Of Extinction“) and Dylan O’Brien (“The Maze Runner“) — are all on the shortlist to rob from the rich and give to the poor.
The concept from this one comes from the pen of Joby Harold (Guy Ritchie‘s “King Arthur“) and will find Robin returning from the Crusades to clean up Sherwood Forest which has become corrupt, enlisting a band of merry men (and I’d guess probably gritty) dudes to help him out.
Thus far, Otto Bathurst (“Peaky Blinders“) is said to be leaning toward Reynor for the lead, though of course, nothing is certain yet. And Egerton may be out of the mix entirely is a ‘Kingsman’ sequel moves head.
In short, there’s a “Robin Hood” movie coming with the word “origins” in the title, which I’d guess probably means, you guessed it, a franchise….
