Another high-profile studio flick just joined the roster of next year’s summer lineup as Paramount Pictures has announced that its upcoming “Possession” remake starring Callum Turner (“One Night Only”) and Margaret Qualley (“The Substance”) has landed a prime spot in the studio’s 2027 slate, as the movie is going to be arriving in theaters on June 11, 2027.
That release date update comes to us from various trades such as The Hollywood Reporter. Other cast members in the pic from writer/director Parker Finn include Paul Dano (“The Batman,” “Prisoners”), Diego Calva (“Her Private Hell”), Madeline Brewer (“Hustlers”), Emory Cohen (“Rebel Ridge,” “Marty Supreme”), and Nicholas Alexander Chavez (“I Know What You Did Last Summer”).
Andrzej Żuławski’s original movie from 1981 focused on “Professional spy Mark (played by the late Sam Neill) returns to his West Berlin home to find his wife Anna (inhabited by French actress Isabelle Adjani, one of the best horror performances to date) insistent on a divorce. As Anna’s frenzied behavior becomes ever more alarming, Mark discovers a truth far more sinister than his wildest suspicions. With its pulsating score, visceral imagery, and some of the most haunting performances ever captured on screen, ‘Possession’ is cinematic delirium at its most intoxicating.”
We wouldn’t be all that shocked if “Possession” becomes of the main titles they promote at next year’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas, along other big 2027 releases from Paramount such as John Krasinski‘s “A Quiet Place Part III” (coming out that same month on June 30), Blumhouse and Ian Tuason‘s “Paranormal Activity 8,” Jeff Rowe‘s untitled sequel to the animated flick “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,” and other features that are expected to debut after April 2027.
There had been some balking and backlash toward the new American-set take on “Possession,” but we really can’t exactly get a great read on what audiences can look forward to solely based on out-of-context set photos alone, so horror fans will just have to be patient for some official footage in the form of a promotional trailer/teaser down the line.
