'The Predator' Trailer: Guns, Explosions, Aliens, & A Heaping Helping Of Shane Black Dialogue

2018 is turning out to be a year full of movies with incredible ensemble casts. We’ve already seen (or heard) the awesome casts of “Black Panther,” “Isle of Dogs,” and“Ocean’s 8” in action. Next up on the list? How about Shane Black’s “The Predator.”

The cast includes Trevante Rhodes, Jacob Tremblay, Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Munn, Yvonne Strahovski, Sterling K. Brown, Alfie Allen, Boyd Holbrook, Thomas Jane, Augusto Aguilera, and Jake Busey. Yes. Please.

The “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang” and “The Nice Guys” director is bringing these incredible actors together for what he’s been quick to point out is a sequel, rather than a reboot. According to Black, “why start over, when you’ve all this rich mythology yet to mine?” He also mentioned to Coming Soon that he wants to focus on asking “some questions about why? Why Predators do what they do? What would be the next step for them?”

The synopsis and new trailer definitely dig into those questions.

From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home in Shane Black’s explosive reinvention of the Predator series. Now, the universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a young boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and a disgruntled science teacher can prevent the end of the human race.

We’re definitely looking forward to seeing how the film turns out and named it in our 100 Most Anticipated Movies of 2018 feature. But all that excitement has been slightly overshadowed by the behind-the-scenes drama. Black’s version has been in development since 2014 and started filming in early 2017. Then film went through several release date changes and, according to Key, significant reshoots and rewrites to Black’s screenplay co-written with Fred Dekker. Hopefully all those complications will translate to something worth all the hype.

“The Predator” will be released nationwide on September 14
