'The Punisher Trailer: Marvel's Latest Arrives On Netflix In November

Three things. 1) it’s interesting how Netflix plays by its own rules. If you look at any 2017 TV schedule, every network and cable channel have had their release dates listed for months, and often a trailer arrives several months in advance. Not Netflix. For example they just released the trailer for “Lady Dynamite” last week and it’s coming out in less than two months. The strategy is slightly different for Marvel’s “The Punisher,” but not by much. For a few months now, Netflix and Marvel have been teasing the release date of the film as TBD 2017, but actually haven’t shared it, until now.

2) Fans must be a little bit sore at Marvel/Netflix. In one of the early trailers for “The Defenders,” Frank Castle aka The Punisher (Jon Bernthal) was briefly teased, but if you watched all eight episodes of Marvel’s last show, he was nowhere to be found.

3) It’s interesting to watch this new trailer and many of these photos, suggesting Frank Castle is going to appear in the shadows for a lot of the show. Of course, this season seems to be about a conspiracy and the Punisher trying to discover how deep it goes.

Here’s the official synopsis:

About Marvel’s The Punisher: After exacting revenge on those responsible for the death of his wife and children, Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) uncovers a conspiracy that runs far deeper than New York’s criminal underworld. Now known throughout the city as The Punisher, he must discover the truth about injustices that affect more than his family alone.

The principal character coming back from the extended Marvel Television universe will be Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, but the rest of the cast is entirely new an features Ben Barnes, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Amber Rose Revah, Daniel Webber, Jason R. Moore, Paul Schulze, Jaime Ray Newman and Michael Nathanson.

Apparently Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and Shohreh Aghdashloo will appear as guests.

Steven Lightfoot, an executive producer and writer on the NBC’s acclaimed thriller “Hannibal” and will act as showrunner on the show and that obviously sounds at least promising considering how tedious “The Defenders” was.

“The Punisher” arrives on Netflix in November.
