Well, it’s been a while since we’ve had a "Blade Runner" sequel rumor, but a new year is here, and it looks like the momentum is continuing whether we like it or not. To bring you back up to speed, the follow-up to Ridley Scott‘s seminal sci-fi movie got official last summer, when it was announced that original writer Hampton Fancher was developing a story with the director. And while there’s any number of ways this can go, Scott did say that Harrison Ford may appear in the film, though he wouldn’t be the focus. But to hear Sean Young, aka Rachael, tell it, the future might be down one more replicant.
The actress was in Park City at the Slamdance Film Festival this past week to help promote "Jug Face" (trailer here), an indie horror that she features in. Well Crave caught up with Young and she revealed she’s actually had a meeting about the sci-fi sequel, though she has doubts that she’ll actually be in it.
"I did meet with them, but I think at that point they just wanted to meet me and I don’t think they have any plans of using any of the original people, although I can’t say for sure," she shared. "I do think, let me just say it right here, I do think it would be a disappointment to the audience not to have Rachael in it but you know what, folks in Hollywood make mistakes all the time."
Yes, fans will surely be heartbroken if Rachael isn’t back. We kid, we love you, Sean. Frankly, at this point, if this movie even does get made, we just hope it’s even in the same ballpark as the original. But with ties already being made between "Blade Runner" and "Prometheus," we’re not exactly optimistic that it won’t be kind of a mess that ends up being over-explained anyway.
