A couple of months ago, Amazon announced plans for a new anthology series from the creator of “Hunters.” The series, titled “Solos,” features an all-star cast and is expected to be one of the most anticipated titles coming to the Prime Video streaming service this year. And in a series of first-look photos (via EW), the star power of “Solos” is pretty unbelievable.
While not a whole lot is known about “Solos,” we know the series showcases eight separate stories featuring one character in a room, as the show explores the depths of human connection. And yes, even the show’s creator understands that having one person in one room for a whole episode isn’t an easy feat to pull off.
“I remember films by their monologues, I remember TV series by those great epic speeches, and so I’ve always been yearning to do a piece that was one person in one room,” said series creator David Weil. “How do you engage an audience for that long of a time, and take them on a journey when you don’t have explosions and act breaks? It’s really on you, the writer, to create a story that’s compelling, that’s narratively thrilling, and that’s emotionally deep.”
Of course, one way to engage with an audience is to make sure these episodes feature some of the biggest names in Hollywood. And that’s where “Solos” really does stand out. The cast is ridiculously stacked with folks like Anne Hathaway, Nicole Beharie, Helen Mirren, Uzo Aduba, Anthony Mackie, Constance Wu, Dan Stevens, and Morgan Freeman, who are all seen in the first-look photos.
“These are some of the most masterful actors [to] have been on screen ever,” Weil said. “And I think that what’s so exciting and consistent about each of them is that they always want to challenge themselves. They always want to do something different, and ‘Solos,’ I think, presented an opportunity for them that was unlike anything they’ve done before.”
An exact release date for “Solos” has yet to be announced, but the series is expected to debut on Amazon Prime Video sometime this spring. You can see all the first-look photos below:
