Just when you thought the cast of “Suicide Squad” couldn’t get weirder or more exciting, along comes Sylvester Stallone and reveals (or spoils?) a surprise role in the James Gunn-directed film.
The announcement comes from Stallone himself, who revealed on Instagram that he’s shooting scenes for “Suicide Squad,” making him the latest actor to have been a part of both the Marvel and DC universes (he had a brief cameo in “Guardians of the Galaxy 2“). “I think it’s going to be a spectacular effort,” Stallone teased in the Instagram video. “I saw it and it’s unbelievable, so I’m very proud to be included and I can’t tell you anything more about it because you’re going to have to wait and see that but it’s going to be well worth the wait.”
Considering “Suicide Squad” wrapped filming all the way back in February, it is more than likely that Stallone’s role is a small one — perhaps something akin to the role he had in “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” where he appears in a brief mid-credits scene. Still, even if it is only for a brief amount of time, seeing Stallone in a crazy superhero costume should be cause for excitement for fans. That being said, if it’s such a small role, and given that James Gunn has not given a response yet makes it possible that Stallone completely spoiled the reveal — which would honestly be quite funny.

In any case, “Suicide Squad” is quickly becoming the most exciting new DC project. Not only does the trailer look fantastic, and the cast is insanely bizarre and talented, but even the announced spin-off sounds good and has its own great cast. If Marvel continues to dominate the superhero box office market, maybe DC can dominate the supervillain market?
