When most think of classic metal bands, many will name folks such as Black Sabbath (along with Ozzy Osbourne‘s solo career), Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Rainbow, Dio, and Motörhead. However, a new biopic film called “Wind of Change” is set to explore the story of the well-respected German metal group Scorpions and has landed a teaser trailer announcing the film is currently in production at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in London (a high-profile British studio used for the “Harry Potter” and DC Comics movies).
A cast assembled for the biopic by director Alex Ranarivelo features Dominic West (“The Crown,” “The Wire”), Alexander Dreymon (“The Last Kingdom”), Ludwig Trepte (“Generation War”), Ed Speleers (“You”), David Kross (“The Reader”) and Luke Brandon Field (“Interview with the Vampire,” “Jojo Rabbit”).

Scorpions are considered one of the most popular and successful acts to ever come out of Germany, selling an impressive 110 million albums worldwide, cementing their legacy in the world of metal and rock.
Founded in the mid-1960s, the Scorpions helped usher in the U.K. and European metal scene, achieving some decent popularity in the 1970s (when they had more of a traditional metal sound that you would associate with the era), the 1980s, and throughout the 1990s as the stadium metal era was winding down slightly with grunge/alt-rock becoming more dominate. The group would eventually be known for their more radio-friendly songs, such as “Rock You Like A Hurricane” and the song that influenced the film’s title “Wind of Change,” which comes from their 1991 release that corresponded with the fall of the Soviet Union, alongside the Berlin Wall finally coming down.
Here is the film’s official synopsis:
“Wind of Change” is a music biopic chronicling the incredible journey of the legendary rock group the Scorpions, with the longest-running and most successful line-up of the band, including guitarist Rudolf Schenker (Dreymon), Klaus Meine (Trepte), Matthias Jab (Speleers), and drummer Herman Rarebell (Field). It tells the story of a band united by their passion for music, who sought to inspire change in the world through their powerful sound and meaningful lyrics. At the heart of the film is their iconic anthem “Wind of Change,” which became the soundtrack to the end of the Cold War, symbolizing hope, peace, and unity. Through their music, with hits ranging from “Rock You Like a Hurricane” to “Still Loving You,” the Scorpions helped bridge the divide between East and West, leaving an indelible mark on history and proving the transformative power of art. West is set to play Doc McGhee, the Scorpions’ famous music manager, and Kross will star as Andrej, the band’s imprisoned friend on the other side of the Berlin Wall.
The pic is a collaboration between FOX Entertainment Studios, ESX Entertainment, and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.
We’re still waiting on a release date, as there is an expectation it could be released sometime later this year in the United States. Until then, you can check out the trailer for “Wind of Change” below.
