Update: Terrence Malick Is *Not* Directing A Virtual Reality Experience Featuring Music From Wu-Tang Clan & Jonny Greenwood

Terrence Malick’sRadegund” is still without a release date, but that doesn’t appear to be stopping the acclaimed director from taking on some new, unique projects. Just a couple weeks ago, it was revealed that the filmmaker helmed a short commercial for the new Google Pixel 3 smartphone. However, the most recent directorial effort from Malick is something completely different and will allow viewers to experience something unlike anything else.

Update: Screen Daily’s report is incorrect. Terrence Malick is not directing the project nor is he presenting the project at VR Days. The producers of the “Evolver” project have reached out to us to say the effort is still in its early stages,  is not part of VR Days Europe and Malick is only among several executive producers on the project. See the updated VR Days Europe lineup below.

Screen Daily reports that Malick is joining a group of 9 other filmmakers as part of VR Days Europe, a collaboration with the upcoming Rotterdam International Film Festival. As you might have already deduced from the title of the event, the director’s latest effort, titled “Evolver,” is a virtual reality experience that allows participants to experience the entire human lifespan from birth until death. If that doesn’t sound like something the director of “The Tree of Life” would work on, then we don’t know what does.

As if “Evolver” didn’t sound amazing enough, it is reported that the VR experience will feature original music from artists like Wu-Tang Clan and Academy Award-nominated composer (and Radiohead member) Jonny Greenwood.

Malick joins a variety of other filmmakers presenting VR experiences. There’s an escape room-style experience titled “Wormhole” from Denmark’s Mads Damsbo, as well as an underwater adventure, “The Water Cycle,” from the filmmaking duo of Benoît Lichté and Serge Dumont.
