'Parasite' First Look: 'Okja' Director Bong Joon-ho's Family Drama Will Debut In 2019

Earlier this year, we reported that “Snowpiercer” filmmaker Bong Joon-ho had just begun filming his latest project, “Parasite.” Not much was known about the project at the time, but considering the director’s filmography, we were anxiously awaiting any news we can get our hands on about the film. Well, thanks to a recent post on Twitter, we now have our first look at “Parasite.”

Bong Joon-ho is known for his unique films, such as the aforementioned “Snowpiercer,” as well as “The Host” and most recently “Okja.” And while the first look at “Parasite” doesn’t necessarily look as stylized or out-there as his other works, we have no doubt that the director has some tricks up his sleeve.

“Parasite” is said to be a family drama about a group of four people with unique characteristics. What that means is anyone’s guess at this point. But one thing is for sure, Bong assured everyone that despite the title of the film, there are no actual parasites or aliens to be seen in the film. “Parasite” marks his first Korean-language film since 2009’s “Mother,” after the director’s last two films were shot primarily in English.

“Parasite” stars Song Kang-ho, a major Korean film star who has worked with the director on the films “Snowpiercer” and “The Host.” He’s joined by Jang Hye-jin as the wife, Park So-dam and Choi Woo-shik, best known his work in “Okja” and “Train to Busan,” as the married couple’s children. Rounding out the cast are Lee Sun-kyun and Jo Yeo-jeong.

No release date has been set, but “Parasite” is expected to hit theaters sometime in 2019.
