How big of a tear Anne Hathaway will go on in the next couple of years? Just a week after signing on to star in Joseph Gordon Levitt‘s AI thriller at T-Street, and about a month after being cast in Christopher Nolan‘s next blockbuster, the actress has yet another new project on her docket. Deadline reports that Hathaway will star opposite Dave Bautista in an action comedy over at Amazon MGM and AGBO. It’s currently untitled, but the working title is “The Wedding Sting.” Let’s hear what it’s about.
Jonathan Tropper pens the comedy’s script, based on a real-life FBI sting about two agents who posed as a couple at a New Jersey wedding to infiltrate a global crime ring. When the crime bosses checked in for their table assignments, the FBI arrested them, dragging them away before the next suspects wouldn’t get tipped off. Hathaway and Bautista will be the agents running the sting operation, albeit as an odd couple pairing, with some other solid character actors playing the criminals they’re out to nab.
Joe and Anthony Russo will produce “The Wedding Sting” through AGBO with Angela Russo-Otstot and Michael Disco. The film is yet another AGBO-Amazon collab, following “Citadel” and the upcoming movie “The Bluff.” Hathaway also produces the pic via Somewhere Pictures, while Bautista does the same through his Dogbone Entertainment banner.
“The Wedding Sting” is Tropper’s latest screenplay, with “This Is Where I Leave You” and “The Adam Project” as some of his other recent work. He’s also a regular writer for Apple fare, including “The Corsair Code” with Chris Hemsworth, and the Apple TV+ series “Lucky” with Anya Taylor-Joy. Tropper’s also in the writing mix for Shawn Levy‘s upcoming “Star Wars” pic, whenever that sees the light of day. And Tropper pens another upcoming Dave Bautista project at Amazon MGM: “The Wrecking Crew,” which also stars Jason Momoa.
Hathaway also has David Lowery‘s “Mother Mary” and James Gray‘s “Paper Tiger” on the way, while Bautista has “In The Lost Lands,” “Aang: The Last Airbender,” and “Traphouse” upcoming.
Stay tuned for an official release date for “The Wedding Sting,” which will most likely get a wide theatrical release before hitting Prime Video.
