Watch: Bryan Cranston Knocks (With A Russian Accent) In Trailer For ‘Cold Comes The Night’

Alice Eve might have last been seen on the USS Enterprise, unnecessarily stripping down to her underwear, but very soon she’ll be fully clothed and totally desperate: in indie thriller “Cold Comes the Night,” she plays a single mother who works at a motel (and lives there, it looks like, with her young daughter). When a dead woman leaves behind a suitcase full of cash in one of the motel rooms, she seizes the moment and takes it. Of course, she wasn’t counting on Bryan Cranston, with large dark sunglasses and a thick Russian accent, to come looking for the money. Does this sound like a creepy thriller or what?  

Based on the trailer (courtesy of Total Film), we can say that the thriller looks moderately suspenseful, although its low budget production value seems to shine through, almost painfully. After “Breaking Bad” ends this fall we’ll probably be clamoring for any and all Cranston we can get (he looks to be in full-on, “I’m the one who knocks” mode here), and Eve is always a joy (even in “Men in Black 3D“), even if she’s rarely given the opportunity to truly shine. The always-reliable IMDB claims that Cranston’s character is a “nearly blind career criminal,” who uses Eve and her daughter as his “eyes” as he “attempts to retrieve his cash package from a crooked cop.” Logan Marshall-Green, the pouting scientist from “Prometheus,” is also part of the cast, which means that every audience will spend at least half of the movie wondering whether or not he is actually Tom Hardy (no, he is not). We’re guessing he plays the crooked cop.

Tze Chung, who directed the Sundance darling “Children of Invention,” directed from a script he co-wrote with Osgood Perkins and Nick Simon. Sony is distributing worldwide, with it opening in the UK on September 20^th. No American date has been set yet.
