Watch: Subtitled Trailer For Asghar Farhadi's Cannes Entry 'The Past' Starring Bérénice Bejo & Tahar Rahim

nullA couple weeks ago, the first trailer for “A Separation” director Asghar Farhadi‘s followup “The Past” dropped but sans English subtitles for those of us who don’t speak French. Well, with the Cannes Film Festival lineup dropping and confirming Farhadi’s expected slot in Competition, the English-subtitled trailer is here, and yes, this looks pretty strong indeed.

Led by “The Artist” star Bérénice Bejo, “A Prophet” lead Tahar Rahim and Ali Mosaffa, we knew that the film told the story of an Iranian man who leaves his French wife and children to return to his country. But what the English subtitles really help flesh out is how crucial the children seem to be to the story, with each pitching their allegiances to various sides of the split couple, with the eldest daughter fracturing from the mother, while the youngest soon seems to take to the new man she has become involved with. Farhadi is again revisiting domestic dramas, but again, it’s with a layered view, and we’re eager to see how it plays out.

No word on U.S. distribution yet, but “The Past” opens on May 15th in France (first day of Cannes, nice). [Deadline]
