We couldn’t be more excited for the next horror flick from writer/director Robert Eggers, as he’s gearing up to shoot a period werewolf story titled “Werwulf,” and it looks like the new feature will be a “Nosferatu” reunion.
Variety is backing up a casting report from the folks over at Nexus Point News that Aaron Taylor-Johnson is set to play a lead role, along with Lily-Rose Depp circling another part as well, after the two appeared in Eggers’ 2024 vampire remake.

The project co-written by Eggers and Sjón (“The Northman”) is said to be a werewolf tale set in the 13th century. “Werwulf” has a producing team that consists of Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner of Working Title, Eggers and Sjón, alongside Maiden Voyage‘s Chris and Eleanor Columbus serving as executive producers.
This casting update isn’t entirely shocking to us as Eggers has been keen on trying to keep working relationships going with his actors like Willem Dafoe, who appears in “The Lighthouse,” “The Northman,” and the aforementioned “Nosferatu.” He once attempted to reunite with Anya Taylor-Joy (“The Witch”) and Robert Pattinson (“The Lighthouse”) for “Nosferatu,” but that plan didn’t come together after the filmmaker had some delays leading to recasting.
Eggers is also putting together a new iteration of Charles Dickens‘ iconic “A Christmas Carol” that’ll star Dafoe as the grumpy Ebenezer Scrooge, which we assume is going to be an entry to essentially make a scary period holiday themed ghost story given the multiple spirits who visit Scrooge on Christmas eve, such as his long-dead former business partner Jacob Marley alongside the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future.
Universal Pictures‘ Focus Features is expected to release “Werwulf” on Christmas Day in 2026.
