‘Wolf Like Me’ Trailer: Isla Fisher & Josh Gad Start A Bad Romance In Dark Peacock Psychodrama

Since its official launch last July, NBC’s subscription service Peacock hasn’t exactly set the world on fire. Positive press for sitcoms like “Rutherford Falls,” “Girls 5eva,” and “We Are Lady Parts” have gained the streamer a modest cultural foothold, but Peacock is mostly lacking the kind of bingeworthy series that established players like Netflix or Hulu seem to generate every other month.

But that’s starting to change. Cue the trailer for “Wolf Like Me,” a dark new psychodrama from “Little Monsters” writer/director Abe Forsythe that looks perfect for a weekend binge. Here’s the official synopsis:

Everyone brings their own set of baggage to a new relationship. Gary and Mary are no different. Gary is an emotional wreck and has struggled to provide for his daughter since the death of his wife. Mary has a secret she can’t bring herself to share with anyone. The universe brought these two together for a reason; they just need to keep following the signs.“

A plot description this ambiguous is no accident, and Forsythe hopes viewers will enjoy unpacking the mystery for themselves: “I’d love for audiences to go into watching the series not knowing where it’s going or what gets revealed as the show progresses because I think if that happens, then it’s going to shock and surprise people.”

Gary will be played by Josh Gad (“Avenue 5”) in a rare turn as a dramatic leading man. His co-star Isla Fisher (“Wedding Crashers”), is similarly known for her comedic performances, but she has shown flashes of frightening intensity. The show’s press materials describe the format as a “genre-bending romantic dramedy,” which should allow plenty of room for both leads to flex the entire spectrum of their considerable skills.

All six half-hour episodes will drop on Peacock simultaneously on January 13.
