Deadline reports that the actor and director will reunite for “The Rage,” which FilmNation has ready for the European Film Market. Previously known as “The Hood,” the film revolves around the Peasants’ Revolt of 1381 in England, which came in response to political tensions stemming from high taxation.  McCounaghey will play a farmer who becomes one of the revolt’s leaders against King Richard’s forces, although it’s not confirmed right if it’s the historical figure Wat Tyler.

It’s the second project in row between McConaughey and Greengrass, who recently wrapped shooting “The Lost Bus” together for Apple Original Films.  Jason Blum leads producers on the film via Blumhouse Productions, with Greengrass and Joanna Kaye.  CAA Media Finance reps the domestic rights with WME Independent.

Benedict Cumberbatch fans will remember the actor was attached to a previous iteration of this project when it was still “The Hood” and hit the Cannes market in 2022. Those plans never materialized, however.

McConaughey adds “The Raid” to other upcoming projects like “The Lost Bus” and “The Rivals Of Amziah King” after several years away from live-action projects. “Amziah King” has its world premiere at SXSW 2025 next month, courtesy of Black Bear Pictures.

So will a studio swoop in on “The Raid” at the Berlinale‘s EFM? The fest starts next Thursday, so we’ll see.
