While we won’t know until mid-April which films will be selected for the Cannes Film Festival, one that seems a certainty is Xavier Dolan‘s "It’s Only The End Of The World." Across his career, the filmmaker has only had one movie not screen on the Croisette, the underrated thriller "Tom At The Farm." And for fans of the filmmaker in Quebec, they will be able to see his latest film in just a few months.
Les Films Séville has announced today that "It’s Only The End Of The World" will open in Quebec on September 21st. Starring Marion Cotillard, Léa Seydoux, Vincent Cassel, Nathalie Baye, and Gaspard Ulliel, and inspired by the play by Jean-Luc Lagarce, the story follows a writer who returns home after a twelve-year absence to announce his impending death, and details the reunion with his family that follows.
Entertainment One has the rights for Canadian distribution, so I’d imagine the national rollout will be at roughly the same time. There’s no U.S. distributor for the picture yet, but that will likely change very soon if the reception at Cannes (again, nothing confirmed, but seems like a lock) is strong.
Next up on Dolan’s plate is his first English language feature, "The Death And Life Of John F. Donovan" starring Jessica Chastain, Natalie Portman, Nicholas Hoult, and Kit Harington, which starts shooting this summer.
