10 TV Shows To Watch In September

Ready, set, GO!  The new television season is officially off to the races! Prior to the current era of Peak TV, viewers would be able to relax and take a break over the summer, as the vast majority of TV series ended their seasons in May before starting back up in the fall. Now, it’s nonstop, with each month seeing more and more high-profile premieres and finales. Now, without a breather, we enter September, where the biggest and best shows from the biggest and best networks (and streaming services) debut their marquee shows.

Mayans M.C.
Synopsis: Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes, fresh out of prison and a prospect in the Mayans M.C. charter on the California-Mexico border, must carve out his new outlaw identity in the town where he was once the golden boy.
What You Need To Know: For the “Sons of Anarchy” fans still pining for some sort of continuation of the series, “Mayans” arrives just in time. If you aren’t a fan of the original series, this might not be on your radar. But that doesn’t mean you should skip out on “Mayans,” as the series looks to set itself apart from ‘Sons’ and find a place of its own. For all of the excellent content they’ve been putting out, FX taking on this spinoff is relatively surprising but it will certainly fill the void for anyone looking for heavy drama and a laser focus on motorcycles and other gear.
Release Date: September 4 on FX

Iron Fist
Synopsis: Danny Rand takes over Matt Murdock’s role as New York City’s protector, but when sinister revelation threatens his very identity, he must conquer his villains to protect the city and people he holds close to his heart.
What You Need To Know: Danny (Finn Jones) has been running himself ragged taking out the scum of New York City, aided by Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick) and Misty Knight (Simone Missick).  However, the past returns in the form of Davos (Sacha Dhawan), Danny’s former best friend in K’un Lun, along with a new villain, Typhoid Mary (Alice Eve).  By far the worst MCU television series, at least until the water-torture that was “Inhumans,” the appearance of a much more palatable Danny Rand in “Luke Cage’s” second season and evidence that the cast were actually given proper time and training in martial arts prior to filming, “Iron First’s” next season is poised to take a much-needed step in the right direction.
Release Date: September 7 on Netflix

Atypical
Synopsis: Sam Gardner, an eighteen-year-old boy on the autism spectrum, continues to gain further independence and expand his world while his family and friends go on their own personal journeys of growth.
What You Need To Know: Sam’s (Keir Gilchrist) orderly world continues to grow and be challenged after his tentative foray into the of dating, which had unexpected consequences for those around him.  As Sam begins to explore college opportunities and think about his future, his sister Casey (Brigette Lundy-Paine) starts a new school and must balance how to fit in/not fit in, while Elsa (Jennifer Jason Leigh) deals with the aftermath of her affair and its impact on her family.
