Got a Tip?

Richard Ayoade’s ‘Submarine’ Gets June 3rd Date; Seth Rogen’s ‘My Mother’s Curse’ Hits Spring 2012

Some new release dates have arrived for a couple of promising titles, so you might want to get your calendars out.

First up, Richard Ayoade‘s festival favorite “Submarine” — which picked up strong notices at TIFF and Sundance over the past little while — will now arrive on the curious date of June 3rd. The film, a quirky Brit coming-of-age tale, seems like an odd to one placed in the middle of the summer, particularly on a weekend where it will face some heavyweight competition. Not only is “X-Men: First Class” being unveiled that weekend, but in the arthouse markets, Mike Mills‘ “Beginners” with Ewan McGregor, Melanie Laurent and Christopher Plummer will also be making a bow. We suppose Harvey Weinstein knows what he’s doing, but we just hope he keeps his scissorhands off the film.

March is quickly beginning to shape up as just as big a blockbuster month as June or July, and 2012 will be no different. “Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters,” “John Carter Of Mars,” “Clash Of The Titans 2” and “The Hunger Games” are all set to hit multiplexes during March next year and now a high profile comedy has come along and joined in the fun. “My Mother’s Curse,” starring Seth Rogen and Barbra Streisand, will hit theaters on March 30, 2012 — a weekend that currently has no one other movie scheduled, though that will obviously change. The film that will tell the rather heartwarming-sounding tale of an inventor who embarks on a road trip with his mother as he tries to sell his latest product, while he has a secret plan to reunite her with a long lost love. Anne Fletcher (“27 Dresses“) is directing. [BOM/Deadline]
