The Playlist’s Second Weirdest Sexual Fantasy Fulfilled
The fourth film in the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, the Rob Marshall-helmed “On Stranger Tides,” is about six months away from release, and has virtually, but not quite, wrapped. But that doesn’t mean that it’s above adding another high-profile cast member, albeit in a tiny role.
Baz Bamigboye has revealed that the venerable Dame Judi Dench will crop up in “On Stranger Tides” in a cameo in the opening sequence. The latest print issue of Empire reveals that the film will open with Captain Jack on trial in the Old Bailey in London for piracy, leading to an elaborate chase sequence through the city’s streets — which Bamigboye says will end up something like “Charlie Chaplin getting away from the Keystone Cops.”
Dench, who worked with director Marshall on “Nine,” will appear in this scene as a noblewoman in a carriage, who is apparently ‘ravished’ by Captain Jack — a romantic pairing we never quite thought we’d see on screen. The actresses’ screen time isn’t expected to exceed more than a couple of minutes, but considering she won an Oscar for her sub-ten minute appearance in “Shakespeare in Love,” who knows what it’ll lead to.
Dench joins Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Penelope Cruz, Ian McShane, Stephen Graham, Richard Griffiths, Keith Richards and newcomers Sam Clafin and Astrid Berges-Frisby in the film, which hits theaters, in 3D, on May 26 next year. She’ll also appear alongside Michelle Williams and Kenneth Branagh in “My Week With Marilyn,” and among an all-star cast of venerable British actors in John Madden‘s “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.”
