If Ryan Reynolds has his way, he will have a new movie in theaters every few months for the next couple of years.
The actor has gone from hotly tipped frontrunner to entering negotiations to join the buzzed project “Safe House” starring Denzel Washington, with a highly touted script by David Guggenheim and with new kid on the Hollywood block, “Snabba Cash” director Daniel Espinosa at the helm. The film is described as a mix between “Collateral” and “Three Days of the Condor” and “follows a young U.S. intelligence agent who must go on the run with a newly arrived prisoner after his titular safe house comes under attack,” and is slated to begin production next year with South Africa and Argentina being scouted as potential locations.
But timing here seems to be key. Ryan Reynolds has been linked to about half a dozen projects this year and doesn’t want to drop any of them. If everything works out, his very busy schedule will look something like this:
– October 2010: shooting the comedy “The Change-Up” with Jason Bateman
– Early 2011: “Safe House”
– Mid-to-late 2011: “Deadpool” with Robert Rodriguez still circling the project saying during recent press rounds for “Machete” that it was “great script and a great property,” and he’ss still considering the project (among a few others) for his next directing gig. Also Reynolds wants to make “R.I.P.D.” which likely means shooting these films back-to-back. Robert Schwentke is currently eyeing the project. Also in here will be an extensive press/promotional campaign prior to the release of “Green Lantern.”
– 2012: “Green Lantern 2” will tentatively start filming for a 2013 release.
– Late 2012: Ryan Reynolds takes a nap.
It’s definitely an ambitious slate for any actor but obviously Reynolds knows that each of the irons in the fire are burning very, very hot right and we don’t blame him for trying to stay on board as many of these high profile projects as possible. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out but for now we’re just gonna ask, is someone going to release “Snabba Cash” in the U.S.? We’re kind of curious to see what all the fuss is about.
