Nicolas Winding Refn‘s films always tend to spark a style vs. substance debate. The consensus seems to be that “Drive” was a perfect merging of the two, while “Only God Forgives” leaned far too heavily on mood and aesthetic, but was otherwise fairly empty (I disagree with that latter opinion, but that’s an argument for another day). At any rate, the conversation is sure to surface once again with “The Neon Demon.”
Coming to play in Refn’s sandbox this time around are Elle Fanning, Karl Glusman, Bella Heathcote, Jena Malone, Abbey Lee, Desmond Harrington, Christina Hendricks, and Keanu Reeves in the Countess Bathory-inspired tale of a beautiful model who becomes the target of the beauty-obsessed women in the industry. Basically, there will be blood. And probably sex too.
Broad Green Pictures will open the film in cinemas on June 24th, before it heads to Amazon Prime. Watch the new trailer above.
