The 2019 Tribeca Film Festival might have already happened earlier this year, but that doesn’t mean that the New York mainstay is done with festival season. Coming next month is the annual Tribeca TV Festival, which will be the go-to place for folks wanting to get a sneak peek of some of 2019’s biggest series, as well as hear some discussions with some massive television creators.
Perhaps the biggest premiere that will happen as part of this year’s Tribeca TV lineup is the screening of the series finale of “Transparent.” Instead of going the typical series finale avenue, with a final season leading up to the last episode, Amazon is wrapping up its Emmy-winning series with a feature-length musical episode. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with EPs Jill Soloway and Faith Soloway, as well as cast members.
“We’re returning this year with a lineup that highlights the ever-changing ways audiences consume television. Featuring selections from classic cable networks, to premium cable, to streaming entertainment, the Festival will always highlight the best storytelling in the medium,” said Paula Weinstein, EVP of Tribeca Enterprises.
“This year’s Tribeca TV Festival program, like TV itself, has something for everyone. We are bringing channel surfing to the big screen, as our audiences can experience- in just 4 days- the full spectrum of episodic storytelling; and we hope, discover their new favorite show along the way,” said Cara Cusumano, Tribeca’s Festival Director.
The upcoming Starz drama “Leavenworth” will have its world premiere at the festival, along with a post-screening discussion with executive produced by Steven Soderbergh and Paul Pawlowski, and the subject’s lawyer, John Maher. There will also be a screening of the upcoming crime drama, “The Godfather of Harlem,” which will be followed by a conversation with star and executive producer Forest Whitaker, star Ilfenesh Hadera, and EPs Chris Brancato and Paul Eckstein. Season 3 of “Room 104” will have its opener screened with a subsequent panel discussion with executive producers Mark Duplass and Sydney Fleischmann.
Since it’s the 25th anniversary of landmark TV series “Friends,” Tribeca will also hold a special screening of two episodes followed by a conversation with executive producers Marta Kauffman, David Crane, and Kevin Bright.
The Tribeca TV Festival begins on September 15.
