People will do crazy things for money. And in the case of Agnes, in the new film “Intrigo: Dear Agnes,” the widow finds herself contemplating a murderous offer that could lead to a better life. All she has to do is make a deal with an old friend, which involves killing her friend’s unfaithful husband. As you might expect, that sort of offer leads to some pretty crazy drama.
The film stars Gemma Chan, Carla Juri, and Jamie Sives. ‘Intrigo’ is directed by Daniel Alfredson, who co-wrote the feature with Birgitta Bongenhielm. ‘Dear Agnes’ is actually the second ‘Intrigo’ film of a trilogy, falling between “Intrigo: Death of an Author” and “Intrigo: Samaria,” all of which are from Alfredson, based on a series of novellas from author Håkan Nesser.
Chan is expected to become a major star this year, as she attempts to build off her breakout roles in the drama series “Human” and the rom-com “Crazy Rich Asians.” Her next feature is the highly-anticipated Marvel Studios film “Eternals.”
“Intrigo: Dear Agnes” is set to be released in select theaters and VOD on May 8. You can watch the trailer below.
Here’s the synopsis:
From bestselling author Håkan Nesser and the director of The Girl Who Played with Fire comes this intense thriller about good friends and evil deeds. With the death of her husband, Agnes (Carla Juri, Blade Runner 2049) is desperate for money. Then she runs into her old friend Henny (Gemma Chan, Captain Marvel), who is enraged at her unfaithful spouse, Peter (Jamie Sives, “Chernobyl”). Henny makes Agnes a shocking offer—enough cash to live a better life, if she will murder Peter—leading to an explosive, unforgettable climax.
