HBO Reteams With ‘Room 104’ Director Patrick Brice For Horror Film ‘The Wild’

Room 104” director Patrick Brice is reteaming with HBO for the upcoming suspense-thriller film, “The Wild.” The film will stream exclusively on HBO Max, developed and produced internally at Warner Max. (Warner Max is the new HBO Max label that will head all feature film development and production for the streaming service.) The film will be based off of Owen Laukkanen’s suspense novel of the same name, and will be adapted, written, and directed by Brice.

As told in Laukkanen’s novel, “The Wild” revolves around a young woman named Dawn, who is the type of girl who just can’t catch a break. After seemingly one too many mishaps, her parents decide to ship her off to “Out of the Wild,” which is a correctional boot camp program designed to help young adults learn life lessons and clean up their acts. However, not everything is as it seems, and, as Dawn soon finds out, there’s a darkness in the woods grimmer than anything she’s previously encountered.

Considering Patrick Brice’s oeuvre, the dark and suspenseful material for “The Wild” seems to fit nicely into his wheelhouse. Over the past three years, Brice has been working with HBO, directing episodes of Mark and Jay Duplass’s dark, abstract anthology series “Room 104.”

Prior to trying his hand at episodic storytelling, Brice wrote and directed both of the severely underrated “Creep” movies, both of which star none other than Mark Duplass as a deranged and confusingly endearing serial killer. (In case you’re looking for some impromptu horror-at-home programming, we recommend checking them out – both films are currently available on Netflix.)

Because it may be a while until “The Wild” begins production, we’re hoping that Brice’s “There’s Someone Inside Your House” – which is currently in post-production and is said to hit Netflix sometime in 2020 – can tide us over.
