Got a Tip?

Listen: Film Composer Brian Reitzell’s “Last Summer” ft. Kevin Shields From His Debut Album ‘Auto Music’

Brian Reitzell

Brian Reitzell has made a name for himself for over a decade by composing the scores to over a dozen different films, most of which have been independent features. He has collaborated with director Sofia Coppola on three films (“Virgin Suicides,” “Lost in Translation,” “The Bling Ring”) and he’s also worked on television shows such as “Boss” and “Hannibal.” Recently he’s been working on a solo album that will further showcase his talents, called Auto Music. The album will be his debut and once it gets released this summer, there will no doubt be more directors begging for him to work on their films.

So what exactly can we expect from this album? Well, as Brian Reitzell said via a press release, “I wasn’t making a pop record. I was experimenting with sounds to further my knowledge for creating music for my film projects and exploring new ways to make music.” To coincide with the announcement with his album, a track called “Last Summer” has been posted online, which gives you a good idea of what Reitzell means.

“Last Summer” finds the composer collaborating with My Bloody Valentine frontman Kevin Shields. They worked together previously on “Lost in Translation” and as you will hear from the instrumental below, the 8 ½ minute collaboration is really something special. Shields is not the only guest star on Reitzell’s album; My Morning Jacket’s frontman Jim James will be making contributions as well.

Go ahead and check out “Last Summer” below and be sure to catch Auto Music when it hits stores (or, the internet) on June 3rd.
