Got a Tip?

All Hail Michael Fassbender & Marion Cotillard In New Images And Posters From ‘Macbeth’

MacbethWhile The Weinstein Company has been busy laying down the awards season tracks for "Carol" and "The Hateful Eight," it seems they are a bit less excited about "Macbeth." Despite Justin Kurzel‘s take on Shakespeare’s great play getting rave notices at the Cannes Film Festival, there’s not even a firm December release date yet for the movie, and they’ve already shunted the picture to their speciality label Radius. That’s not to mention that it’s not scheduled to appear at TIFF, which would’ve seemed like a no brainer. But with the movie in cinemas overseas in just over a month, there’s a bit more enthusiasm.

Empire has dropped two new character posters for the flick, with Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard standing tall as King and Lady. Meanwhile, a batch of new images have dropped showing Kurzel’s moody, gritty, not-your-grandma’s take on the material, making it one of the more distinctive adaptations to come along in quite some time. But whether or not it will resonate with Academy voter types remains to be seen, but it doesn’t seem like the Weinsteins are pushing too hard.

"Macbeth" arrives in cinemas later this year with an exclusive run on Amazon Prime to follow in 2016.
