'The Americans' Season 6 Trailer: Cold War Spy Thriller Makes The Final Curtain Call

All good things must come to an end. And so it goes for “The Americans,” FX’s critically-acclaimed series, set in the 1980s, about two Soviet spies living undercover in Washington D.C. (insert obvious Trump joke) will begin airing its sixth and final season this March. Though each season so far has run for 13 episodes, season six will be condensed to ten.

While of course much of the plot has been kept under wraps thus far, we have managed to obtain bits and pieces of information that will impact season six’s direction, as seen in the new trailer. According to creator Joe Weisberg, Elizabeth and Philip (Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys) affairs will be affected by Mikhail Gorbachev taking control of the Soviet Union. “That will create tensions and problems and issues in the Jennings’ marriage and Jennings family, and it’s going to ripple out in a lot of ways [both] exciting and emotional,” Weisberg stated at an Emmys For Your Consideration Event, last May. Season six will also see more of Jennings’ daughter Paige (Holly Taylor), who will begin learning the family business.

While there are still many questions such as whether the Jennings move back to the S.U., or if neighbor and F.B.I. agent Stan (Noah Emmerich) finally catches on to what’s been going on next door, that will need to be answered, one thing’s for certain; the creators plan these answers ahead of time. “The ending itself has stuck since middle of season 2,” executive producer Joel Fields said in an interview at Austin’s ATX Television Festival. Well, I’m intrigued.

Season Six will begin airing on March 28.
