If the web-o-sphere is to be believed, there is more interest than you might expect in Blake Lively‘s shark thriller “The Shallows.” Perhaps it’s the refreshingly simple premise of the movie in a summer filled with video game adaptations, sequels no one wanted, and furrowed brow superhero movies, but it seems there is more buzz than I would’ve figured this one.

Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, the movie isn’t rocket science — a young woman is stranded in the water, and has to get back to shore, except for a pesky shark hanging around in shallow water. Will she survive? Here’s the synopsis:
In the taut thriller The Shallows, when Nancy (Blake Lively) is surfing on a secluded beach, she finds herself on the feeding ground of a great white shark. Though she is stranded only 200 yards from shore, survival proves to be the ultimate test of wills, requiring all of Nancy’s ingenuity, resourcefulness, and fortitude.
“The Shallows” opens on June 29th.
