Barack Obama Finds His Way In New Trailer For Biopic 'Barry'

With each day seeming to bring a new, apocalyptic vision of what the United States under Trump might look like, it seems everyone is growing increasingly appreciative of the eight years President Barack Obama has spent in the White House. But before he got there, he was just another young man trying to find his way and the upcoming “Barry” chronicles the years when he was just a student seeing where life would lead next.

Devon Terrell takes the lead role in Vikram Gandhi‘s movie which takes us back to the early 1980s, as Barack Obama roamed the campus of Columbia University, eager to make his mark. Here’s the official synopsis:

A young Barack Obama, known to his friends as “Barry,” arrives in New York City in the fall of 1981 to begin his junior year at Columbia University. In a crime-ridden and racially charged environment, Barry finds himself pulled between various social spheres and struggles to maintain a series of increasingly strained relationships with his Kansas-born mother, his estranged Kenyan father, and his classmates.Barry is the story of a young man grappling with those same issues that his country, and arguably the world, are still coming to terms with 35 years later. 

“Barry” hits Netflix on December 16th.
