Benedict Cumberbatch & Claire Foy To Star In 'Louis Wain' From Director Will Sharpe

If you’re the boss at a studio and you’re hoping that your upcoming prestige biopic has plenty of buzz and is something that will likely get awards consideration, you have to stack the cast with at least one A-list, acclaimed actor. Luckily for the upcoming film “Louis Wain,” the film is headlined by two A-list, acclaimed actors.

According to Deadline, actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Claire Foy have signed on to star in the upcoming film “Louis Wain,” from filmmaker Will Sharpe. The film, as you might guess from the title, is a biopic focused on the famous English artist Wain. He’s probably best known for his art that depicted anthropomorphized large-eyed cats and kittens. But it’s not just his art that is going to be the focus of the film.

Wain’s home life was also of note, considering at the age of 23, he married a woman that was 10 years his elder and was possibly schizophrenic. That last detail, however, is debated to this day. But it was his marriage at a young age that seems to be the biggest influence on his career, as his wife’s early passing seemingly led to his fascination with her feline friend and cats, in general.

Cumberbatch is an Oscar-nominated actor, due to his role in the drama “The Imitation Game.” He’s also probably known to many around the world as the title hero in the film “Doctor Strange” and the various Marvel Studios film appearances, including the record-breaking “Avengers: Endgame.”

Foy is best known for her Emmy-winning work on the series “The Crown.” However, recently, she was seen in the action/thriller “The Girl in the Spider’s Web,” where she played the character Lisbeth Salander.

No release date is set for “Louis Wain,” but production is set to begin next month.
