AMC Says 'Better Call Saul' Will End Next Year With The Series' Sixth Season

It’s been hinted at for a year or so, but now it’s confirmed — “Better Call Saul” is coming to an end.

According to AMC, just a little over a month before Season 5 arrives for viewers, “Better Call Saul” has been renewed for a sixth season, which will also serve as its last. The 13-episode final season will cap off an Emmy-winning run for the “Breaking Bad” prequel that started with skepticism from fans but quickly became must-see programming for those that enjoy what was started in the first series.

With Bob Odenkirk returning as Jimmy McGill aka Saul Goodman, “Better Call Saul” hit the ground running in 2015 and has earned an incredible 32 Emmy nominations over its first four seasons. Now, with the story clearly wrapping up, AMC and the folks involved in the series are ready to finish things off with a bang.

“From day one of ‘Better Call Saul’ my dream was to tell the complete story of our complicated and compromised hero, Jimmy McGill – now AMC and Sony are making that dream come true,” said Peter Gould, co-creator and showrunner. “We couldn’t be more grateful to the fans and critics who are making this journey possible. Next month we start work on the sixth and final season — we’re going to do our damnedest to stick the landing.”

Sarah Barnett, president of AMC Networks Entertainment Group and AMC Studios, added, “Greenlighting a prequel to one of the most iconic series in television history is one of the boldest swings that AMC has ever taken. But, thanks to the creative genius of Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould, it has also been one of the most rewarding. It has been an absolute joy to collaborate with the extraordinarily talented team on ‘Better Call Saul,’ which – five seasons in – continues to deliver some of the best storytelling and most beautifully nuanced performances on television today. We congratulate Vince, Peter, our producers, writers and cast on a remarkable run and look forward to sharing this final chapter with fans.”

The series stars Bob Odenkirk, as the title character, joined by Jonathan Banks, Rhea Seehorn, Patrick Fabian, Michael Mando, Tony Dalton, and Giancarlo Esposito. “Breaking Bad” mastermind Vince Gilligan is also aboard as a co-creator and producer.

The penultimate season of “Better Call Saul” debuts on AMC on February 23. The final season is expected to begin production later this year for a 2021 release date.
