'Captive State' Trailer: A Decade After Alien Occupation A Rebel Group Will Rise From The Ashes

With the latest trailer for “Captive State,” that makes almost three minutes of footage for the upcoming sci-fi film about an alien invasion (counting the first teaser), and honestly, it’s still hard to tell what’s exactly going on. But you know what? That’s actually kind of refreshing.

In the latest teaser trailer for the film, we see much of the same that was in the first tease — aliens have invaded and taken over our government. There’s a serious amount of propaganda being spread, as a rebel group seems to be rising. And from the synopsis, we know that the film will focus on those that are collaborating with the invaders and those that are rising up against them.

Other than that, all we have are glimpses at a film that offers some strong “District 9” vibes. And that’s definitely not a bad thing. “Captive State” looks like it bypasses the disaster film genre tropes that seem to be prevalent in alien invasion films and, instead, focuses on the effect a decade after the occupation. Maybe, just maybe, the film will not be another “Independence Day” and will instead borrow from the aforementioned Neill Blomkamp-directed film that found itself nominated for an Oscar.

The film stars John Goodman, Ashton Sanders, Jonathan Majors, Colson Baker, and Vera Farmiga. The alien invasion flick is directed by Rupert Wyatt. He’s probably best known for his work on “The Rise of the Planet of the Apes.” “Captive State” is co-written by Erica Beeney and director Wyatt.

“Captive State” will arrive in theaters courtesy of Focus Features on March 29, 2019.

Here’s the synopsis:

Set in a Chicago neighborhood nearly a decade after an occupation by an extra-terrestrial force, “Captive State” explores the lives on both sides of the conflict – the collaborators and dissidents.
