Christopher Nolan Has Some Hot Takes As He Expresses Love For 'Alien 3,' 'Tokyo Drift,' & Timothy Dalton's Bond

The biggest fans of Christopher Nolan would call the filmmaker a visionary. A trailblazer of sorts. Someone that loves to push the envelope and test the limits of cinema in the biggest, boldest ways. Apparently, that visionary sensibility applies to his own movie tastes when it comes to blockbusters, particularly those in the “Alien” and “Fast & Furious” franchises.

Speaking on the “Happy. Sad. Confused.” podcast, Christopher Nolan was asked about some famous franchises that he’s not actually had anything to do with. And in discussing them, the filmmaker reveals that he has some serious hot takes.

First, when discussing James Bond and the superspy franchise (a series that fans have been aching for Nolan to take a stab at), the filmmaker revealed his favorite actor to play 007. And no, it’s not Sean Connery. No, it’s not Daniel Craig. Uh uh, not even Roger Moore.

“My favorite Bond actor is Timothy Dalton,” said Nolan. “I think he’s closest to the character in the book.”

But the hot takes keep on coming, especially when it comes to “Fast & Furious” and “Alien.”

“I’m sort of an original recipe [guy]; I mean, the Rob Cohen original [‘Fast & Furious’ film]l, but I’ve got a very soft spot for ‘Tokyo Drift’ actually,” Nolan admitted. “And then the skill as Justin Lin’s iterations, as they got crazier and bigger and crazier and bigger, they became something else, but something else kind of fun.”

He added, “The fun thing about those movies is, even as they’ve gotten bigger and bigger and bigger, as sequels have to do, everyone always complains that sequels get bigger but we’re the people making sequels get bigger, we do want them bigger. You don’t want them smaller. It’s the ‘Alien 3’ lesson that [David] Fincher learned. You can do it but it’s not going to make anybody happy, even though personally I love that film, a lot more than he does in fact.”

You read that right folks. Christopher Nolan is a rare breed. Someone that prefers Dalton’s Bond, the Dom-less ‘Tokyo Drift,’ and Fincher’s “Alien 3.” What’s next? Is ‘Attack of the Clones’ the best “Star Wars” film? Is Terrence Howard better than Don Cheadle as Rhodey in the MCU? Please, don’t tell me he’s a “Hobbit” over “Lord of the Rings” guy!
