Colin Trevorrow Teams With Universal For A New Take On 'Atlantis'

While he’s preparing to restart filming on “Jurassic World: Dominion” early next month, it appears that filmmaker Colin Trevorrow is already set to head to “Atlantis” next.

According to Deadline, Trevorrow has signed a deal with Universal for a new film titled “Atlantis” about the mythical continent of legend. However, unlike other Atlantis-based stories, Trevorrow’s film is a new take on the legend that he developed with writer Matt Charman. The script for “Atlantis” will be written by Dante Harper, who wrote the original script for “All You Need is Kill” (which would later go on to be Tom Cruise’sEdge of Tomorrow”) as well as “Alien: Covenant.”

The biggest difference between the general public’s perception of Atlantis and what Trevorrow is working on is the fact that the filmmaker’s vision for the lost civilization isn’t underwater. Instead, it’s a lost continent that is located in the Indian Ocean, where there exists a multicultural civilization with advanced technology. It sounds a bit like Wakanda, but without the superhero aspect.

Apparently, Trevorrow has secretly been developing this project for a few years, with his team doing research and build out the world before announcing the film. So, this definitely sounds like the filmmaker is hoping to create a fully-realized world for this film to exist in and not just some generic setting for an action script.

As mentioned, Trevorrow is currently working on the third “Jurassic World” film. He took a break from the dinosaur franchise to helm a “Star Wars” sequel, but as we are all well aware, that didn’t go so well, with the filmmaker leaving the project and handing the reins over to JJ Abrams for the resulting ‘Rise of Skywalker.’ Now, Trevorrow is getting back into the swing of things with ‘Dominion’ and the forthcoming “Atlantis.”
